Thank you for your interest in the Phalen Leadership Academies (PLA). PLA provides a rigorous and well-rounded learning experience for our scholars, and we aim to create a welcoming environment for all parents.
We know that you are your child’s first and most important teacher. We also know that you are our most important partner in ensuring that our scholars achieve everything they are capable of achieving. At PLA, we actively work to partner with you to ensure that your child receives an exceptional education. Below, you can find some of the ways in which we work to partner with our families:
- We hold a Parent Orientation, where we share our vision for your child’s education;
- Teachers provide regular reports on your child’s progress;
- Parent-teacher conferences enable you to meet with your child’s teacher;
- We invite you to attend field trips, to sit in on classes, or participate in other ways, and;
- We hold fun family events and parent events such as “All Pro Dads.”
We look forward to working with you to ensure that we provide the best education possible for your child.

At PLA@48, all students are provided a healthy, nutritious breakfast and lunch at no cost through the National School Breakfast and Lunch Program.If your student has an allergy or needs a food accommodation, please complete a meal accommodation form and return back to the school nurse. NOTICE OF REQUEST FOR PROPOSALS
Food Service Management Company (FSMC) Request for Proposals (RFP)
This solicitation is for the purpose of entering into a contract for the operation of a food service program for Phalen Academy, herein after referred to as the School Food Authority (SFA). The bidder is herein referred to as the Food Service Management Company (FSMC). The final contract will be between the FSMC and SFA.
A meeting with interested bidders to review the specifications, to clarify any questions, and for a virtual walk-through of the facilities with school officials will be held on May 10, 2024, at 10:00 AM ET via a Teams meeting link. Attendance is optional. Our Programs

Summer Advantage is a nationally recognized summer learning program designed to help scholars close the achievement gap and prevent summer learning loss. Summer Advantage, not to be confused with summer school, offers rigorous, research-based academic instruction and a wide variety of hands-on enrichment classes to improve student achievement and continue to transform learning throughout the summer. Participants receive two healthy meals a day, daily recreation, and an exciting environment where they can flourish academically and build confidence as leaders.
In addition, scholars participate in field trips, college campus visits, college prep, and scholar-led community service projects. Through innovative learning experiences, scholars gain confidence that supports their success when they return to school in the fall. This program is free for PLA schools and scholars across the country.

With many of our children currently years below grade level, the Reading Advantage Program is one of the many key initiatives that will help our scholars realize their potential and be able to use education to change their futures. The goal of this program is to improve reading proficiency by at least 10 percent each year and ultimately beat the district and beat the state. Fountas & Pinnell Leveled Literacy Instruction is an evidence-based comprehensive, systematic design for high-quality literacy instruction and a standardized approach to providing tier 2 instruction. At the beginning of the year, every scholar will be assessed using the F&P Benchmark Assessment System (BAS). Scholars are then grouped based on their level. RIs travel throughout the day, working with two groups of scholars in every class they visit for thirty minutes per group.
